Joe Frazier Autographed Memorabilia“Smokin’ Joe” Will Live Forever Through Your Joe Frazier Memorabilia CollectionJoe Frazier was your favorite boxer. He had been since the first time you first saw him in the winning the Golden Gloves Championship in 1964. You knew that he was something special. When he managed to win Olympic Gold later that year, your beliefs were confirmed. You knew that if there was a boxer that you were going to follow, it was Joe Frazier. After he turned professional in 1965, you followed every one of his fights. As he beat opponent after opponent, you knew that at some point he would get a title shot. A real title shot, not like that disputed championship in ’68. In 1970 you got your wish when he won it all by beating Jimmy Ellis senseless. But your joy paled in comparison to the joy you would feel in the coming years.
It was called the “Fight of the Century”, Joe Frazier vs. Muhammad Ali. Both were undefeated and for a second you thought that “Smokin’ Joe” might actually lose. He didn’t and one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports was born. It was after that fight that you bought your first piece of Joe Frazier autographed memorabilia. It was a Joe Frazier autographed photo of the “Fight of the Century”. You had it framed in a high quality display case and it hung in your office. Frazier would stay undefeated until 1979 when George Foreman ended his run at 29 straight victories. A year later you saw him fight Muhammad Ali for the second time and it was great again. You bought another piece of Joe Frazier signed memorabilia, another Joe Frazier autographed photo. You would have never known that you would buy some of your most prized possessions just a year later. The “Thrilla in Manila” would become one of the greatest fights ever contested between two of the greatest fighters ever. The third fight between Frazier and Ali was arguably the best. Even though Ali won, you knew that Frazier had given everything that he had. It was after that fight you bought 2 more Joe Frazier autographed photos, some Joe Frazier autographed boxing gloves and some Joe Frazier autographed boxing trunks. Your friends marveled at the Joe Frazier memorabilia collection that you had amassed. Joe Frazier would continue fighting for a few more years and you still intently followed his career. He would later become a trainer, even training his own daughter for a fight against the daughter of his most hated rival Muhammad Ali. When Joe’s autobiography came out, you added it to your Joe Frazier memorabilia collection. And you continued to add more Joe Frazier signed photos. Given his tough financial times, you saw this as a way to help the champ out. When he died from liver cancer in 2011, you mourned as if you had lost a close friend. And in some ways you had. The walls of your home were lined with so many Joe Frazier autographed photos, it was like he was a member of your family. And now even though he is gone and your collection of Joe Frazier memorabilia is worth much more than you paid for it, you could never part with it. It is a part of your life. |
