He had an outstanding career at the University of Michigan where he lead the Wolverines to 10-1-1 record his junior year (1984) and finished #2 nationally and followed that up with 11-2 record in 1985 and was selected AP All-American and finished third in Heisman voting. He was then drafted in the first round by the Chicago Bears and played there seven seasons prior to joining the Colts and leading them to the AFC Championship game. In 2007 he was named the head coach at Stanford and turned the program around including a big win vs USC in 2009 and finished the 2010 season ranked #3 nationally.
